Unfortunately, our world has become one where politicians do what makes them &quot;look good&quot; so they get re-elected, rather than implementing plans and programs that will truly make a difference.  This plan makes no sense -- they&#039;re going to give $50,000 to someone to help them with closing costs and repairs.  They probably don&#039;t have the first clue how to do a $50,000 rehab.  And, how do we know that they are going to have the money and time to maintain the property.  I&#039;m a firm believer that you need to have skin in the game.  If these people have all of the up front cash given to them, then they really aren&#039;t emotionally/financially invested in the property/project.

At the same time, these same community activists would balk at the idea of some professional real estate investors coming in, getting the properties at a discount, and professionally rehabbing them.  They might  make a profit!  We all know that if you make a profit, nothing good can come of it.

And, this is just the local level.  Let&#039;s not get started on what the fools in DC are planning.
